puppy pre-k
Puppy Professionals at Your Service
At Dog Days, we recognize the importance of your young puppy being socialized in a safe, clean, and thoughtful environment. Puppy Pre-K is a “whole dog” development program. We are taking advantage of your puppy’s sensitive “socialization” period to develop their brain into the best dog they can be.
This program works like daycare; you leave your puppy with us for the day. You will receive a report card at the end of each visit. This is not like a typical training class with a start date and end date. You may set your own schedule. Coming consistently 1 or 2 days a week is suggested. The more your puppy attends, the more benefit you get.
Our Objectives are to help develop a dog who:
- Can respond appropriately to their world (non-reactive)
- Is resilient
- Has impulse control
- Has handler focus (Listens)
- Has the foundations for a good recall (come when called)
- Has the foundations for good leash skills
- Is comfortable with people & dogs
Our structured play-based training experience includes:
- Small puppy play groups which are supervised by our Sr. Handler
- Teach good play skills, impulse control, and emotional regulation
- Sensory Enrichment games
- Brain games during nap time in a crate
- Exposure to novel items, such as umbrellas, strollers, skateboards, strange surfaces, & more
- Exposure to vet clinic scenarios, like being held while a stethoscope touches the puppy or the puppy’s teeth are examined.
- Exposure to grooming, like the sound of a nail grinder (Dremel), brushing and standing on the grooming table.
- Foundational obedience
Requirements to Get Started
We recommend starting your puppy while they are young! We accept new puppies 10 wks to 5 months old. Once puppies have received their Bordetella vaccine and 2nd round of the DHPP vaccine, and they have had a negative fecal exam, they are welcome to join our puppy program.
At 6 months old your pup may continue to our “Tweener” Adolescent Program or transition to standard daycare, if he’s ready.
Click here to register; mark “Puppy Pre-K” for the service you are interested in. We are accepting new Puppy Pre-K clients.
Puppy Pre-K truly starts the puppy off on the right paw in life! It’s great if you are looking to have a dog who can be confident and social at places like the vet clinic, breweries, and pet-friendly stores.
